Portage Indiana is Porter Countys largest city and home to about 38,000 residents. It started out as a farming community. The steel needed from the mills during the World Wars drew workers, and new steel mills, to the area.

The city is still very industrialized, although it’s mainly centralized near the Port of Indiana to take advantage of our local shipping waterways. However, favorable tax rates and urban sprawl has brought many great subdivisions to the city.
