Wicker Memorial Park in Highland Indiana is a beautiful, 226-acre park with a long, proud history. Wicker Park, as the locals call it, is named after the original owners of the land. But we can thank a small group of local men who purchased the land from the Wicker family and then donated it to the residents of The Region for the sole purpose of building a community park and preserving open areas.

In 1927, President Calvin Coolidge came to NW Indiana to dedicate the new park.  President Barack Obama also gave a rousing campaign speech from Wicker Park just days before being elected in 2008.

But Wicker Park is built for the people of NWI, by the people of NWI. You can visit this lush, green space and enjoy a variety of outdoor activities for every age. There are also community events, rental pavilions, and picnic shelters. You can even bring your dog to play!

There is something to do for the entire family at Wicker Memorial Park. Here are 5 good reasons why you should visit Wicker Memorial Park.

The New and Improved Wicker Dog Park

The Dog Park was updated in 2016 and is now a well-planned, safe, convenient play space for your dogs. There are pet fountains, and benches for their humans.

The upgrade enlarged the Wicker Memorial Dog Park and designed it as two separate spaces. Now, as one side sees wear and tear, it is closed and the grass is allowed to recover. The other side is then opened up for use. What a great resource for the entire area!

  • Indiana Residents: $60 for 1st dog, $20/add’l
